Dave and I are working on strip numbers 3 (almost done) and 4 (still early, but making progress). We ran into a couple of hiccups this week when my power supply spontaneously fried (still waiting for Antec to get back to me so I can send it out to have it repaired/replaced), and then Left 4 Dead 2 was released. Some of you may have noticed that I’m a bit of a Left 4 Dead fan. I expect that I’ll be spending quite a bit of time in the next few weeks playing.
At any rate, even though progress has been slow, I’m pretty happy with the way the new strips are turning out. I think the artwork is on par with my best stuff from the classic Pub strips, and Dave is consistently outdoing himself on color. I’ve scripted the entire first “chapter” of a new storyline, with the next two chapters firmly in mind. So, as we get closer to the first of the year (our relaunch date) I’m faced with a dilemma. How do we publish the new content?
So, I’d like to get some feedback. What would you folks like to see? Right now I’m toying with a few ideas:
- One strip per week, most likely on Friday. Pros: This will allow us to make a relatively few strips last a long time, and will allow us to work at a reasonable pace of one-strip-per-week. Cons: It will take a long time to tell a story. Even short chapters like the current storyline (~10 pages) will take months to get through.
- Two strips per week, most likely Tuesday/Friday. Pros: Obviously, we can tell stories twice as quickly. Cons: Working at the more aggressive two-strip-per-week pace is not likely to be sustainable (these are full blown 8.5×11″ comic pages). We will have a backlog of strips ready to go on day 1, so we will be able to update at this pace for a while, maybe even a couple of months, but will then run out of backlog and will likely need to shift to a slower update routine.
- One chapter at a time. Pros: Readers get to read an entire chapter all at once, the day it’s published on the site. Cons: It takes a long time to make a chapter, so time between updates will be long.
- Reveal pages 1 piece at a time. The pages are divided into panels…we could reveal these 1-3 at a time, and build out the page over the duration of a week. Pros: More frequent content updates. Cons: Less content per update. Page layouts (which are carefully thought out) are diminished. Strips would also be irregularly sized (because the page layout doesn’t always break into nice, evenly sized chunks).
I’d like to know what people would like to see, and how often. Please comment on this post to give me your feedback. Thanks!

I’m for options 1 or 3.
Frankly, I’d just love to see content!
1-2 strips a week are nice, 1 page at a time is also nice. I read some very slow-revealing stuff and very slow updating stuff… as long as they keep updating, I’m happy.
Hey, I demand my money’s worth! If I don’t see daily updates (and twice on the weekends), I want a refund!
Seriously, though, whatever is fine. For some stuff, reading a whole chapter at a time is best, but if you keep each page somewhat self-contained, a page a week should be fine.
I like the 1 page per week option, but like Liz I’ll just be happy to see content in any form!
